Yeah I've been re-reading it and its very good. The best Berserk had been since the Golden Age.

It was quite a wise decision to expand the magical focus and the fairy-tale angle, since things were starting to become a bit stale and repetitive in the Conviction arc. Griffith as the false knight in shining armor and Guts as the big bad wolf is a very natural-feeling development. Also as much as people rag on the new group as being "shonen" or whatever, (and they're right, a hero learning how to bond and place his trust in other people in obviously fairly generic), it's well written and makes sense and it's compelling.

Plus how many shonens have have good guys who masturbate to the thought of people burning? Not a lot. Probably.

I realised recently that Guts' rage-wolf is meant to look like his sword.
