It's pretty hilarious how transparent Toriyama's influences are in retrospect. Most Americans didn't see the Androids arc until the early 2000's, but it was serialized in Jump in the early nineties.

Actually, the Android/Cell saga has one of the most realistic depictions of time travel, with pretty much no room for paradoxes. The only real oddities in the saga came from publisher mandates, and even those can be explained logically.

Dragonball goes by Multiverse theory for time travel, technically when you time travel you don't actually go back in time, you create an alternate universe that is similar but not necessarily identical to how your own universe was at the same part of the timeline.

Cell Saga makes the most sense if you assume it has 4 timelines. There's the 3 you listed, but Cell timeline and Trunks timeline branch off much earlier than this.

The missing timeline is the past timeline that Cell timeline Trunks goes to. In it, Cell never travels back to this timeline, so the Cell saga never happens. The androids get defeated, Trunks goes back to his timeline where he doesn't know to expect Cell, who ambushes him.

It was explain already by that point that time travel works on a multiple timeline basis.
There were 3 different timelines
The one we know and follow for the series
Future Trunks who came back to the past and warn Goku and then come back and trained before going back and destroying his Androids and his Cell
Then the third timeline where Cell came from where Trunks beat the Androids using the Remote
They're all separate and independent regardless of what you do in the past.
