Do the Japanese pirate most of their anime like we do, or do they rely mainly on DVR recordings and Blu-rays? I can't imagine having to buy multiple Blu-ray volumes just to watch one series.

Generally BDs are only bought after somebody has finished watching a show and they want to keep/support the series
>>158092812
Only hardcore fans or people who want tickets and/or other extras buy BD.

I´m not a jap, but i bet there are plenty of tv channels with reruns over there. Else they would just watch the shows when it runs or record it like you said. That´s what i would do atleast.

Pirating is obviously a thing there, but it's a lot more risky since they're actually within the reach of the ones who would punish them. Basically, it's like torrenting Hollywood movies in the west.

So there's no risk basically

They watch it on TV, Anon.
If it's so old/obscure that there's no rerun in any channel, then they rent the DVD.
And only if they absolutely liked it, they'll buy it.

Has anyone ever been arrested or fined for this?

Several times more people watch anime than BDs are sold. You can easily verify this just by looking up various stats online. Stop making threads asking really stupid questions.

Japanese lives are very busy. You might have 1 hour a day to watch anime, but it might not be the hours when your favorite anime airs.
