Even among all the official adaptations, the anime is its own special level of shit. Every year hundreds of non-h fanworks even put it to shame. Saddest part is they did hire some big name writers who must have half-assed it because they knew it'd sell regardless.

That's what they say every time. Doesn't mean the original creator wrote the whole thing though, just that they gave the OK. You still get situations like Kuma Miko where the mangaka said they had enough faith in the anime staff that they stopped checking in towards the end and then were ashamed at the clusterfuck it became.

There's a big differences here though. Tanaka worked closely with the staff making the movie too(iirk on the story), they already knew the tv anime received heavy criticism yet the popular opinion is that the movie is a well-looking turd at best so even after a second attempt both the staff and Tanaka fucked up. You also have that the game doesn't have an interesting plot or premise either. Tanaka has a passion for the subject but he's not a story teller by any means.
