You're right about Berserk not being kid friendly, but I think the show does have potential to be a hit anime in spite of that. Attack on Titan was absurdly successful in spite of its violence and gore, and the story/characters for that show aren't even good compared to Berserk. The reason why AoT's anime is great has much to do with its incredible animation. I think Berserk has potential if it had a decent budget and an experienced studio behind it.

The song "Ash Crow" is perhaps a reference to the myth of the Phoenix, which applies both to Guts and Griffith in different ways. They both face absolute despair and unavoidable fate, and are reborn: Griffith is reborn as a monster disguised as the hero he could have been, while Guts seeks after redemption despite the entire world seeing him as a psychopathic killer. It is one of the most famous seinen franchises in the history of anime and manga, and it finally had another anime adaptation, specifically for post-Eclipse material.

It was bound to sell and gain appeal off brand alone.

Had they just done normal 2D animation, it probably would've sold tremendously.

This whole anime is shitty CG + "2D" colored pages from the manga.

I wouldn't go as far as to say the 90's anime was better than the manga will ever be, but it really was a solid AF series that adapted the Golden Age arc very well, told its story very powerfully, and really captured Berserk's appeal, style and atmosphere extremely well through a combination of Hirasawa's amazing music (to this day, nobody else's music is acceptable for Berserk), good storytelling/directing/pacing, and art that was pleasant even if it wan't high budget, with a great color scheme and tasteful direction and stylistic choices. I do actually prefer a few things about the 97 series' telling of the Golden Age arc versus the manga's; I honestly like that it dropped Wyald, for one, as I always felt like his character and the chapters he took up threw off or stalled the pacing at that point in the story and his character honestly feels like a tacked on bad guy. The story just flowed better without him and everything surrounding him. I also liked that the 97 series included a few more of the Hawks battles earlier on than the manga did, as I felt like it helped flesh things out earlier on in the story, alternatively.

What else do you expect when Hirasawa's work is used?
Only good music in this anime and it has to costar with shitty hectic violin music that's been with us since the start.

Hirasawa's new and original tracks and the fact that it is based on Berserk are the only good parts of this shitty anime.

Bad models, shit facial expressions, shit animations when talking, shit animation for the action, poor choice of shots for basically everything but the one detailed 2D shot that caps off the episode, abysmal camera direction, loads of cut content, etc.

This series has been going great until this ep. Grunbeld was just too much of a smug memeing faggot. And zodd was a shit.
