The whole point of animation is to animate(move) things though?

Anime thick lines doesn't plays well with high framerates.
Fluid scenes just make it more obvious and very distracting, the smoothness does looks better though but the lines ruin it.

Kyo-Ani are at their best when they adapt mediocre SoL source material like Maidragon or K-ON and vastly expand it and fill it with life and soul.
And they are the only studio that seems to be able to create masterpieces from mediocre sources, most other studios just make mediocre adaptions because they lack imagination and creativity to improve it.
Occassionally Kyo-Ani fucks up completely with that approach and then things like Phantom World happen.

I actually agree with this unironically. Other than choreographed action scenes, there's no need for any real detail in animation.

And most of the animation is wasted on really cliche things too

I wish action series would put more character animation in during non-battle scenes, even if battle scenes suffer for it. Having talking heads and then suddenly gorgeous animation for a battle is way too jarring, and having doll-like characters makes me care about them less. TTGL was a huge offender of this. Hell, Imaishi is a huge offender in general.
