The degree to which you can be self-sufficient there depends on your aggressiveness. The only reason Rock can survive is because he's with some very aggressive people. I'd argue it's the same for Benny, as he seems a lot like Rock, only he's been in that life longer. You can't hesitate, you can't second guess yourself. If you pull a gun, someone better die. I think drugs are necessary to living that kind of life. Something, anything, to take the edge off and loosen you up to the point you can make morally ambiguous decisions at a moment's notice.

But as you continue to wake up with as many holes as you went to sleep with, I think surviving becomes a lot easier. You stop thinking twice about putting down a mugger or ripping people off or acting aggressively in general. But those first few months are going to be brutal, and I think unless you find yourself running with some guy who have been there a lot longer than you, you're not going to live that long.

I doubt any SEA countries are as fucked as Roanapur. The best fit would be a big coastal city in Somalia, although I feel like there would be mostly unorganized, petty crime as opposed to high level organized crime.

The main difference is that Somalians don't really have money, so you'll never make it big dealings guns or drugs unless you have a boat and can deliver that stuff internationally. If you went alone you'd be dead in a week. If you went with a group of people and a lot of money for bribes and to buy the product you needed, I think you could set up a pretty successful criminal network there. Base yourself out of a secure building surrounded by armed guards and deal drugs, guns, or people. But again, there's no money in the region, so over time I think you'll struggle. Even food is hard to come by, and the whole country suffers from famines almost annually.

And, even if you survive all that, you need to realize that size matters. If your org stays too small, the locals may just band together to get your shit and kill you before returning to their petty squabbles, or if you get too big, the long dick of Uncle Sam will drone your ass to hell

So speaking of Revy's past, you think maybe in the next arc we get more of it.

Hiroe seems to pull many of his characters back stories from real life organizations( Roberta with FARC, Balalaika being a former Spetznas who fought in the afgan war, The Vampire Twins being a product of the aftermath of Nicolae Ceaușescu's fall from power) and Revy is no different.

They have made references to "Mott street" in Chinatown as where she used to operate.

since black Lagoon takes place in the mid 90's, i would imagine Revy was doing dirt in Chinatown during the 80's. Now if you are from NY you know that Chinatown was pretty fucking dangerous at that tme due to Triad/Tong drug gangs shooting shit up.
