basically her original partner got injured,the red haired guy, and he told mc to take care of her. In that gape this jackass comes in claims her as partner which she goes along with and is seemly taken captive when she could have said no. Jackass dumps his imouto partner after bad mouthing her, but her and mc team up to break up the other pair in competition. Chapters later they lose but imouto wins ballroom queen so it counts? Main girl seems to come to her senses and was like "oh yeah why am I here? good thing I didn't win".
Later she says it was because her partner had to take a break casually like that makes up for a whole arc of being a plot device. Mc accepts it of coarse

That's a pretty silly thing to do. He is a visual learner and also it was first reactions from them. Later in the manga he realizes how that can't carry him alone. Another thing you missed is hanaoka other than ''yeah sorrry'' reaction. Even if that only was reaction you need to understand it was a friendly competition. Would Fujita have lost hhe would just be with Mako for a while longer. Kaname says so pretty much a few chapters later.

Yes. There's 40 chapters right now, and if it's split cour then they'd have another ~10 by the time the second cour ended (and in those 10 they'll probably get the end of this current tournament, which would make a good stopping point if they increased the pacing a bit).
