The story just kind of meanders off into "oh we must find and reunite the entire class from elementary school and either apologize, help them out, or tell them to fuck off". Then someone tries to kill themselves. Then it ends. There's no love story, no anything other than weird forced drama.

My problem with the story is that the ending doesn't fit how the author wrote the characters, especially Ishida.

Seriously reread the manga, Ishida's emotional investment in Nishimiya is overwhelming and extraordinary. His attention to her isn't one of a platonic friendship. (The fucker learned sign language when it wasn't a garantee he'd ever see her again!)

The emotions displayed in the story are too intense and passionate to just be coming from a former bully and his former victim. Their bond is shown to be one of if not the most important thing in their lives currently.


Now I'm not saying that a story about a reformed bully asking forgiveness from his female victim can't be platonic, but you have to approach it from the right angle. This story didn't do that.

Hell at the end there's even a plot point on how its important that Ishida and Nishimiya go to Tokyo together.

It wasn't thrown into our faces with direct words, but literally everything Shouya does for Shoko isn't based out of regret and apologetic feelings.
