Tbqh, TM was pretty tame compared to the manga and wasn't more violent than your typical 60's anime show. It's only the two-parter finale that stands out from the rest because it was the first time a massive and gruesome bloodshed was shown on tv alongside a massive improvement in animation (TM animation was horrendously rough and shoody, even for its age).

Afaik, the battle vs Red Death Mask was pretty violent, but nothing compared to the finale.

Not really. Except the Golgota Cross battle and the Paris Underground Arc, most of the anime is very faithful to the manga.

He started as a child angry at the world wanting more power to not suffer again. Hgot scouted by Tiger's Den. Became good enough to gain the title of "Tiger". Had a career as heel.

Life was good, until he had to betray Tiger's Den to save the orphanage. Whiche did mean Death On The Ring.
Sure, bring it on, he'd use the same brutality they taught him to defeat as many of them as possible before biting it(he had no hope of surviving). Except...
there was a kid form the orphanage. He had the same eyes and the same rage as Naoto at his age.
Naoto was well aware he wasn't a good person, and this kid looked up at him as an example.
Naoto couldn't bring himself to let other kids follow the same road to ruin he was on, so he swear off any and every foul, to become a pure Face wrestler. he forced himself to become an correct example for all lonely, angry kids around.
This wasn't easy, of course: years of habits are hard to go, and once a while he did fall back on bad habits, but kept getting better.
Over the series, he went from evil heel hated by everybody to loved face, respected on the same level as Inoki and Baba, a model for children.
He even saved Ken from repeating his own mistakes, gaining a student in turn.
