What is the most recent anime you deemed to be to a very high standard? based on the airing date alone and not when you watched it.
personally i think the most recent show that i would rate 8/8 was nisemonogatari (2012)

Started going downhill vaguely around 2000 I'd say, with:
-budget cuts, outsourcing, Jap economy, etc
-CG / digital cels allowing for budget cuts
-direct otaku pandering via internet feedback
Last 8/8? Probably Love Lab. And that was just a good adaptation, nothing terribly ambitious.
