Better overall, one of the better ideas introduced in it is that confidants/social links now give a lot of alternate bonuses on top of the bonus xp. For example there's a confidant with a shogi player that unlocks the ability to switch party members mid battle.

They really stepped up how useful the non-party social links are. They actually give you some useful utilities like bonus money, experience, and being able to go out at night even after going to a dungeon. I also think the cast as a whole is stronger than before.

Probably the biggest change compared to the past 2 is the the dungeons now have a deliberate design instead of being randomly generated. There's a actual path you have to follow, which allows for some more diverse ways to interact with the level than in the previous 2. I'd say it's the strongest entry overall.

The plot is largely a rehash of P4. There's also way too much of "your party members are literally the only decent people in the entire world" sort of morality going on.
Plenty of quality of life improvements.
Lots of the translations are iffy, but just how bad they are have been overblown by weeaboos.
More options to improve social stats, lots of map areas to spend time in, but expect to be railroaded by this fucking cat.

There are very few personas with skills locked to them. I think alice, yoshitsune and lucifer have unique skills. Other than that all personas have 304 stats at level 99 and you can actually manipulate stat gain, which menas lower level personas are easier to min/max thanks to starting out with lower stats. That and resistances are probably what you want to look for when picking your personas.

It has the best gameplay in the series. The story is great, but you can't really say which story is the best between 3, 4, and 5 since they're all different. The characters are fucking great. Level design is the best in the series and a massive step up from the hallway simulators that were the previous games. Music is brilliant as expected of Shoji Meguro. Objectively better gameplay wise than either P3 or P4, since they did a lot of things to make the dungeons more palatable and the social links matter in a gameplay sense beyond giving your fused personas exp bonuses
In terms of characters and overall narrative, it doesn't quite hit the highs that P3 had, but it also manages to go beyond the Scooby Doo tone that P4 had

Did my first playthrough on hard in english.

The visual style and music are great. The calendar time management system is fairly unique and SMT gameplay is still fun even when it's a little easier.

Judging from early artwork and the opening animation (which was done before later stages of the game) it seems as if Haru had two traits which weren't seen in the finished version of the game: an apathetic and listless demeanor and a love of junk food/snacks, the former of which would have likely been the result of a lifetime of being railroaded by her father and the latter of which might have tied in to her role as the heiress of Big Bang Burger.

Though this is all mostly supposition, there's definitely a staggering difference between the Haru we see in pic related and the Haru who sweetly compliments everyone after each battle.

I really hate how much of a disappointment this game was. It was cool in the beginning, but then everything became really formulaic and annoying.
The phantom thieves forum was a cool idea if they utilized it to hold protests or something (kind of like the dollars gang from drrr).

The game could have been so much better if they stopped with the whole "the only good people in society are my friends and everyone else is a bad person".

Hawaii is actually a very important part of the game as it shows you how Joker and his friends were getting full of themselves, in a way even yourself the player starts to do so as well and enjoy the popularity. Hawaii also explains why the dispute between Morgana and Ryuji happens and would have felt forced otherwise.

An anime obviously won't work but they'll do it anyway. I think instead of worrying about what to cut or not, they'll just do a pure fanservice show, animating various scenes of the game without worrying about coherancy or comprehension of the people who haven't played the game.
They'll call it Persona 5 the heists or some name like that.
