It pains me to say so, but Makoto Shinkai won. Kimi no Nawa is a dumb script, no doubt, but a much more competent movie.
I almost didn't finished Koe no Katachi. How could Yamada fail so much? The best of the manga was not the story, was de delivering, and emotions, and this movie striped all of it.

This is the worse animation that KyoAni ever made (among those I watched).

I still need to digest more of this ride, but yeah, what a disappointment.

He's a viewer, the movie made to move him, her shit directing just made the movie confusing.

She did a bad job, she failed to capture the audience, while shinkai had people re-watching his movie in droves, this just came and went.

The content of the source material is pure oscar tier shit, but the movie fucked it up. It's way too short to create believable character relationships, almost every character arc was completely ignored, everything ends up feeling forced, it's just a fucking mess.

Kimi no Na wa lacks an aesthetic identity, haphazardly juggling between a light bodyswap romcom, a superficial and illogical sekai-kei Japanese commentary and a constantly reiterated and sensational tale of lost connections that Shinkai has stuck and done nothing interesting with for over a decade. It doesn't end there, the film opens with an out-of-place TV opening and constantly shifts back to AMV style without any consideration for the synaesthetic flow of the cuts. Some utterances in interviews about the Tohku earthquake will lead people into seeing depth that simply isn't there beyond serving as a backdrop for the unconvincing relationship being portrayed. Fatalism for sensationalism sake is simply too much of a hook for masses it seems. It's the Avatar of anime, people will shitpost about it being the best selling thing in the world to hide the utter emptiness of the film. I'm never rewatching this trash.

Movie didn't do the manga justice at all. The entire movie segment was completely removed, which explained why all his old classmates came back. They ruined best girl as well. Ueno was not that fucking one dimentional as they made her out to be in the movie.
