The pacing was terrible. It rushed through the first two volume undermining the entire story as a result, since the severity of what happened to the protagonists is poorly conveyed.
The characters have never time to breathe, the characterizations are semplified to an absurd degree, the movie jumps from a key scene to the other with no build ups and cool downs making them all fall flat.
It kept elements without purpose considering the cuts, like the confession scene, granma's death, the redhead guy, Shoya being saved without foreshadowing or explaining the presence of his ex friends.
The lack of movie subplot and resulting tension on the characters makes the drama feel unjustified and out of place.
This is the worst adaption in recent memory.

Kyoani really went all out for Nichijou. The actual source material is really basic with mediocre art and punchlines that don't necessarily land well due to the paneling, but every single scene in the anime is played out so fucking well.
Also the amount of emotion from the VAs, the constant high quality animation (with great character animation), and 10/10 classical OST really made it for me.
It's funny how much creativity Kyoani can put into their manga anime adaptations, just compare the K-ON manga with the anime too.
They even made a bland manga like Kobayashi-san actually watchable too.
