Is there any point in NOT watching the chronological order? Especially for a first timer.

Nothing happens after episode 6 then.
If you watch it in chronological order, the last episode you watch will be the most boring one. The release order is fine imo, that's how I watched it. You don't miss out much.
I don't see why is this a thing if the 2009 release had the whole 28 episodes in order with no "boring" parts at the end.
25, 1, 2, 7, 3, 10, 9, 11, 28, 4, 27, 26, 5, 6, 8, 12, 13, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24

order in which the episodes happen chronologically ('movie' episode is first for reference)
the reason why you would watch in this order is because there are some plots and universe details that are necessary to be kept hidden for some plots to stay interesting

The anime is told in a way that creates suspense and interest in events only hinted every now and then.
Watching it chronologically only takes away this tense feeling and fills the episodes with flashbacks of scenes you've already seen.

Pacing sucks in chronological order. The airing order is very deliberate.
Some people think that it's okay to watch it in chronological order now that the movie caps it off. These people are wrong. The story doesn't have momentum in chronolgical order and it feels like nothing happens for hours after the first six episodes.

Screw you
People saying the last episode is boring but I'd say that's the whole point and it doesn't detract from the experience as a whole.

I don't think it's boring and I actually think that it's good as a final episode. But the rest of the series has lots of problems if you watch it in chronological order.

Watch Mikuru's Episode 00 first - and then in chronological order (rewatch that episode again in its proper place).
