He explains that she's in a state of suspended animation, with her consciousness severed and bound to his. He can put her back, and promises that he will, but only after she helps him graduate from the sorcerous academy his master sponsored him into.

Not seeming to have much choice, she agrees. Being a top student back home, she quickly helps him become one himself, using his base knowledge that he grants her to understand the language and basic fforms of magic.

She teaches him while gainig an expansive knowledge of magical theory herself. They become closer, and end up spending almost all of their time outside of class together, earning him something of a reputation as a genius recluse.

The dynamic becomes really strange. He occasionally visits her body and reanimates her, giving her clothes to try out or sharing a meal he thought she would enjoy.

At one point she actively tries to get him to reveal her to a staff member, and after smooth-talking his way out he goes back to her body, furious.

In a fit of rage he cuts one of her fingers off, then returns her to her body, letting her writhe in agony . He quickly realizes the horror of what he's done and severs her conection with her body again, apologizing frantically and promising to fix it, fix everything.

That'd probably cover the first 13 episodes or so, with the last scene the apprentice hugging her body and crying while she stands next to them, monologing about how she's not sure if she can do this anymore while hesitantly reaching out to the apprentice she can't even touch.
