What's the most over-used dramatic phrase in anime?
>>157129801
I'll never forgive you!
Even though their lack of forgiveness doesn't really bother the villain.
>ahhh shikatanai
Miru ga ii!
>>157129801
>I'll have to get serious now
>You're kidding, right?
>>157129841
It's more that people never bother applying context when translating this.

>>157129801
KISAMAAAAAAAAA
>"I don't get whats going on but" so and so, usually saying that they're gonna team up with so and so to fight a bad guy or something
Like, why do anime characters literally never even try to assess their situation?

This was especially an issue for me while reading through Steel Jeeg
It's only like 10 or so chapters long, Jeeg says it like every chapter, and the villians are trying to exterminate humanity so I'm pretty sure he was actually motivating the bad guys.

It is the same with many words. Anime & game translators are too lazy for context.
'Kisama' is ALWAYS 'bastard' when in Amiercan translations, regardless of who's saying it. Really knots my knickers, that does. Like some cockney punk or medieval knight, or samurai is ever gonna start using generic Americanese words.
>>157129841
The phrase that always ends up being translated as 'I won't forgive you' would usually be more accurately translated as 'I won't allow [something]'.
But common sense and context are so hard. IT CAN'T BE HELPED.

You're all wrong.
The most overused "phrase" in anime is
>Dozo dozo (go ahead / go for it / my pleasure)
or
>Usoda, Sodayio ne? (I Know right?! / Stop lying!)
There's a difference between a catch-phrase, and a direct verbal signifier.
Stuff like
>B-BAKANA
Doesn't qualify as a phrase. It's a verbal cliche, at least, that's what I thought? I could be fucking retarded, which is highly likely.

Many of the phrases posted in this thread are actual clutch phrases in Japanese, you know?
For example:
>>157137994
You can hear these ones in every day Japanese.
As for Yurusu, it isn't limited to forgiving, as it can also mean you won't allow someone else to get away with anything. It'd would be akin to phrases you would listen to in Hollywood movies like "I'm gonna stop you" or "I'm going to put an end to this" or "I'm gonna make you pay".
>>157130757
This is actually just a reflection of Japanese culture. It's just trying to be humble, as in trying to avoid some arrogant holier-than-thou attitude.
The characters clearly take a side, showing a moral judgement, but say that to show they don't think of themselves as some kind of moral authority.
