I know all of this is just idle speculation but do some of you people really want Mikoto to die or go into a coma, etc? It's one thing to not like her and another to put her away like that. Unless you want her to get fucked up so she can endure and grow and be important like the 3 MCs but for narrative purposes I think she can still be conscious and kicking as developments happen.

Besides such a major character death should happen right around the middle of the series so the readers can get over the shock and take it in as the consequences continue to influence the story and characters all the way to the end. If a big protagonist is going to die they better drop dead within the next couple volumes, and that's assuming Index continues for another 8 years at least.

This is also a moot point but the heartbreak with the fans would be of considerable proportions. Apart from the diehard waifufags the majority of people will miss her I think. /a/'s threads don't always reflect how Japan perceives the series 100% and I think Kamachi can't possibly be that cruel even if he likes to pull the rug out once in a while.
