The way they use the music outside of the opening sequences was fantastic. The lack of music at times was masterful.

Could have gone with a different final meeting place. To common in Makoto Shinkai's work

I have a personal theory that during the body swaps they only had the memories at the point of time they Musubied.

The year difference was really only important on the Taki side. Even if Mitsuha noticed it would have meant nothing for her because SHE didn't know her town would be blown up. If Taki had his memories past when Mitsuha met him on the train then the town and year would have meant something.

It is even kinda supported by the way Taki was acting as Mitsuha, junior high students usually wear their PE uniforms under their school uniforms, so girls don't "mind their legs". If he modeled his behavior on the girls he was familiar with while body swapped it would have been on the junior high girls.

It would also mean that the kuchkamizake Musubi was required to sake the town as it would have been the only way for Taki to bring his current memories through in the body swap.
