But I'm seriously not holding any expectations, I do look forward to seeing some of the minor stuff that was left unadapted from the novels being covered and maybe a closer interpretation of the source.

They are in a sense quite refreshing in comparison with the rest of the medium, I gotta agree (no bullshit overpowered ship annihilates an entire fleet).

It's a very good show and I like it a lot, I'm just saying that the battles being CGI probably won't be that much worse. The battles are quite static, and there is some good CGI out there. I'm more worried about how they're going to treat the characters, who'll stay and who'll go: some great characters (like Dusty) aren't in the novels, if I recall correctly.

Obviously I have watched it, but LoGH is one of the series I really wouldn't mind having a legitimate copy of on my shelve, and the Japanese prices are bonkers as usual.

Wait I misread your original quote, I thought you meant that in the novel Reinhard didn't know. Reinhard must assuredly did know in the OVA but he is unsure, he wants to say no but logically he knows Oberstein is correct in saying Westerland is a necessary sacrifice. The struggle comes from him being torn and not knowing whether he would have said yes or no, Oberstein enacted this plan not only because it was the best plan of action but by lying to Reinhard so there was no way to stop it he allowed for Reinhard to not be as deeply scrutinised. Oberstein made sure that if ever a critical eye was turned towards Reinhard over the event that he, Oberstein, would take the blame.

Reinhard's guilt comes from his faltering of the pure idealized version of his rule he and Kircheis envisioned, but he's torn because ultimately had he listened to Kircheis the campaign to seize power would have been in jeopardy and in fact Oberstein was the one who made the right call not his trusted friend. This leads to the realization he needs to stop playing favorites and treat Kircheis as a subject, because as Kaiser he needs to stop treating Kircheis as an equal. This ultimately blows up in his face during the war trials and he's left ridden with guilt, torn internally because he knows he must match onwards to bring a Kaiser and that means he could cause more situations like this.

So should i wait for Production I.G.'s bastardization or should I watch the original?
