And the screen darkening thing has been around for a long time. Sure in some shows like Jojo theyll lack out parts that are gorey for the TV version, but when the whole screen darkens its not really censorship its just to prevent seizures.

I used to watch some shows on YTV up here in Leaf Land or that other channel I forgot. OR the more "unconventional" way would be to have my relatives from Japan ship me boxes (or bring home by luggage) of VHS tapes of recorded TV anime every year when I head over to Japan to visit them.

Imagine the following:

>certain episodes get cut due to "1 hour special airings," but most of the recorded shows record the full episodes just fine
>some shows air at night, so relatives put a piece of cloth over the TV screen since you need the TV on to record said shows

The main reason they censor guns in cartoons isn't because of violence, but because they don't want some kid to accidentally shoot someone with an irresponsible parent's gun. Even if it had nothing to do with the show, they don't want the media to make a connection to the show.

It sounds crazy, but that kind of shit used to happen CONSTANTLY with Pokemon. Any time a kid did anything, they'd inevitably find a way to link it to Pokemon.

I remember when there was very small censorship in series I have watch at the beginning of 90s. Some of the shows were Japanese releases with lector, some were strangely Italian or French versions with lector, not many had dubbing even. At least Dragon Ball Z had plenty of blood, we had Pokemons without any cuttings, I do even remember we got (!Not Anime Alert!) Cow & Chicken episodes with them smoking cigarettes. I don't remember my friends starting to drink, smoke, fight or anything like it because of movies, cartoons, etc. They started whatever they did because of their own parents. So it's funny how people are trying to cover and shade kids from everything, but most of kids nowadays learns everything from people who take care for them, parents, grandparents, family, friends, etc.

I am pretty normal person, yet I was exposed to really shitty things in 90s.

I think there's a difference between censoring and taking measures to avoid causing seizures. Cutting things out because "oo, they might offend someone" is censorship; darkening the screen because someone might have an epileptic fit and die if you don't is using your brain.
