What are your reasons for not watching cute and relaxing anime

I'll have nightmares.

I'm afraid of going to sleep.

I just replay the 1st Aria intro instead.

I'm too tired to watch a full episode of anime but not tired enough to stop browsing /a/ and go to sleep.

Why would I want to go to bed depressed?

Most of the time I dont feel good enough about myself to watch the cute series that made up the years that seem so much bettter by way of nostalgia. I still watch hidamari as often as I can, but it hurts to watch it and remember the years when i felt better than i do now. It's not even that it was different from now, but if it was depressed then, then now is ten times worse by comparison.

I've gone from typically taking over an hour and often enough much more to fall asleep, to less than 20 minutes thanks to traditional Chinese cartoon therapy. Programs like redshift/flux help a lot as well, though I set the colour tempature pretty warm.

Mushishi is so good at creating its own atmosphere and evoking a sense of wonder. It uses that to treat these matters with a kind of somber sobriety that feels to me like a 'cleansing' experience. Hard to find the right words for it.

To push the metaphor a little, healing often involves dealing with something unpleasant, particularly in a way that liberates or enables understanding or acceptance.

Just as a note if this is the first time you've seen Mushishi raised in this context, it's not uncommon to regard it as Iyashikei.

Haibane Renmei less suited? It's the most therapeutic show of the bunch, by far.

I listed it because it's very relevant; I agree it's therapeutic. But the context is watching one of two episodes before sleeping, and that involves other factors. Haibane isn't in the first list because it's not episodic enough and it inspires too much curiosity.

Re it's rating, it is one of my higher 8s, and could rise to 9 after my first rewatch, whenever that is.
