Lot more exposition, but it's still faster paced then then anime.

They're stretching one LN into a whole season, and there's been more and more anime original crap. Like in this episode, almost everything was original. The dog, the old man, the looters, the rat, exploring the hideout, etc.

In the novel they just arrived at the village, saw all the dead people, went into the church and looked at the bodies and started talking and theorizing, then got summoned when thirteenth's name came up. Everything else is filler. They were probably trying to action up what was a lot of talking in the book and it came off kind of bleh.
