The thing about what pisses me of regarding Zodd is that Miura is not consistent with showing how Zodd is strong. Zodd is first shown during the Hundred year war where he was inside a fort, and by himself stopped 50 soldiers of Band of the Hawk.
Guts fights him while Zodd is in his human form, and pretty much was fighting against Guts with ease until he was bested by Guts' final attack where he cut deep in Zodd's shoulder. Guts himself states that Zodd is physically stronger than him, but the swords are pretty much of the same power. Keep in mind that Zodd's sword is the sword that he's been using for a long period of time during his 300 years of existence.
Now, seeing how he was bested by Guts in his human form, he transforms in his apostle form and wrecks Guts. Griffith joins the fight, and with Guts they make a duo attack where each one of them slashes onto Zodd's arms. Guts slashes deeply onto Zodd's right arm, and Griffith manages to cut of completely his left arm. At this point of story, Griffith was still stronger than Guts.
Sometimes later, Guts duels Griffith where he wins. So therefore Guts > Griffith.
Guts meets with Zodd again after 3 years (one year before Eclipse and two years after Eclipse). Zodd doesn't have anymore his famous sword (he threw his sword to Guts when he killed the Chedar's lieutenant). Instead he's using some random horse slayer sword from one of the Kushans, Meanwhile, Guts has drastically improved over the last 3 years (more over the past 2 years after he started to fight against demons and apostles almost every night). Not to mention he got the Dragon Slayer, which at this point of story is the strongest sword (Skull Knights sword with Behelits is shown later).
So 3 years ago, Guts managed to best Zodd cutting deeply in his shoulder when he was still in human form. And what happens here, they fight on equal grounds where Zodd should have been defeated with fucking ease considering everything mentioned.

Later in the story, Guts fights against Grunbeld, who is let's say similiar to Zodd in strength, but still Zodd is the strongest apostle below Griffith in Neo Band of the Hawk.
Guts only manages to start winning over Grunbeld when he was in Berserk armour, winning with no problem against human form, and making a crack in Grunbeld's armor in apostle form.
tldr; Following the story of Berserk, Zodd should have been defeated by Guts even in his apostle form when they met on the Hill of Swords.

Maybe Zodd has been training too. You also have to keep in mind, that Guts didn't really give a fuck about Zodd in their second encounter, he was more hell bent on getting to Griffith. I'm sure that threw off Gut's focus quite a bit. Also gay niggers

OK for sure Zodd wasn't inactive during those 3 years, but you can't convince me that he got stronger in 3 years that much considering he's alive for over 300 years. Not to mention he had a random sword in his second duel against Guts. And it is true that Guts wasn't 100% focused on Zodd because of Griffith, but still that doesn't mean he shouldn't have dealt against him with ease seeing how much stronger he got in those 3 years.

Nah, Guts was doing okay. Got a hit in, blocked Zodd's horn (still got blown away but not wounded), avoided another hit.
He was doing better than against Rosine so far.

Zodd is a Apostle, and as such he gets stronger as the God's Hand influence over the world increases. Considering that, after Griffith rebirth Zodd is at his finest.
Also, the power-levels don't need to be absolute.

Doing fine doesn't mean much considering he would have been seriously injured or possibly even killed if Griffith didn't stop Zodd.

Where did you see that? Zodd got a cheap shot while Guts was trying to save Casca, and it didn't wound Guts either. It wasn't worse than any Apostle fight he had. The Count absolutely wrecked him and looked what happened.
