Depends on the torrent.
Some 1080p torrents are upscaled from 480p.
Others are true 1080p.

I'd say in general, but it depends. I'm not particularly restricted by bandwidth or disk space, so the obvious choice is 1080p. Besides, I enjoy watching in fullscreen and it wouldn't make sense to download 720p which is downscaled from 900p, and then upscaled to 1080p on my monitor. But things may be different for you or the next anon.

If you're downloading from a CR rip like HS, 1080p is better.
