Same reason they fuck up everyone's hair and make them rediculous colors and shapes, it's stunningly common in anime for faces to be so ridiculously close to each other that they're near indistinguishable taken on their own, this allows close ups to pop out and different hairstyles allow them to be easily determined at a distance.
