It's set in the usual high school setting and is not unconventional at all.

Those are literally just cherry-picked screencaps of "unique" cinematographic shots.
Interesting visual direction alone does not equal art house. There is nothing experimental about K-On, if anything those shots comment more on the director's ability than the anime itself.

If K-On! is unconventional in any way, then it's in the fact that it's really good, several notches above your usual TV anime. It's my favourite show, I love it dearly and I'll defend it to the death, but nothing in it even comes close to fitting the definition of art house.

Chihiro's encode of both seasons is very good. There's an unfortunate gap though in that they didn't do 25 or 26 of S2. I have the Frostii release in its place which, while TV sourced, is still better than Elysium's shitty fucking encode.
