Why is the gap between pleb-patrician so much smaller in the anime community than it is versus something like the music or literature community? The "patrician" animes are are also the favorites of "plebs", but this isn't the case when it comes to music. Maybe there's no such thing as being patrician or pleb when it comes to anime?

what are you talking about, op?

I haven't meet a single person who watches anime that actually has any taste

unless thats what you meant
>>
>>156760370
I'll keep comparing /a/ to something like /mu/, just because it's easy to

The mu essentials chart contains the favorites of the plebs, but the patricians mostly don't listen or favorite the stuff on that chart. However, on /a/, the patricians favorite animes are the ones on the essentials charts. It seems like there isn't really a huge difference between the two groups here
>>
>animes
I think that the "essentials" charts you are basing the patrician/pleb divide on are actually troll charts.
>>
with music or literature, it takes pretty much no money to create and you can do it solo. this means people can make weirder shit easily. with animation, its harder to make things for a small audience, so the net result is less of a gap between pleb-patrician.

I don't think the same concept exists within /a/. It's more "/a/ vs. non-/a/".
>>
>>156760976
makes a lot of sense actually, nice anon
>>156761002
gotcha. there's a huge gap on /mu/ (i frequent there more actually)

>animes
This thread is fucking dumb and so are you. Kill yourself.

I'd think for a few reasons:
1. Anime is Japanese entirely, unlike most other mediums where a lot of the "patrician" stuff is foreign, Anime/Manga is entirely Japanese
2. Anime can often go untranslated in myriads of languages.
3. Anime isn't something one person can do or a small confined group, usually. A lot of more "patrician" films and music can be done either solo or with a very small team and can be weird and experimental, which is a lot harder in Anime, like this guy said.>>156760976
>>
>>156761045
Maybe I will
>>
>>156760330
The same reason there isn't really much of a concept of "patrician television".
Because it's mass media. If the artistic intent is even there, it's secondary.
>>
That's because "pleb" in 4chan is whatever reddit likes

But truth be told, reddit is not really "pleb". Redditors aren't normalfags. Normalfags are the true plebs. Redditors are just in denial about their failure and not self-aware, so their posts are always cringe-inducing.

tl;dr Patrician and Pleb doesn't cut it. There should be a middle category.
>>
>>156761320
"patrician" and "pleb" are just stupid ways of saying entry level and hardcore which should not be taken as standards of quality but rather how much of the medium you need to understand to enjoy it.
>>
>>156761320
>r*ddit is not pleb
>>
>>156760330
I hope you aren't implying that Kimi no Na Wa is "patrician" anime
>>
>>156761811
No, that pic was just fitting
>>
>>156760330
music is subjective. anime is not.
>>
>>156761025
Self-proclaimed patricians on /mu/ are just insecure fags who can't deal with the fact that there's so much music out there that they'll never listen to all of the good stuff, so they declare entire genres unfit for the ear.
Anime, on the other hand, is still rather niche. There are around 50 non-short series airing this season. At an average of 12 episodes each, 24 minutes per episode, that's 240 hours of content over 90 days, or less than three hours a day. Once you're up to speed with older stuff, it's pretty easy to stay current on literally everything.
This goes hand in hand with the fact that anime is a group effort. One person's genius won't shine through in every aspect of the show, but neither will one person's incompetence. There are plenty of series with god-tier X but shit Y. Real otaku learn to take the good with the bad, because there isn't that much to choose from.

In short: if you have enough choices to be picky about what you watch, you're a newfag.
