Court rulings don't create law, they interpret already existing law.
From the bits and pieces floating around, it seems that in this case, it was about what is considered "providing illegal content" - e.g. previously, only the person uploading it would be liable, but a person merely linking to the site would not be the one providing it, thus not be responsible. With the new interpretation, this changed and even providing a link will be illegal.
There will surely be some finer definitions like "knowingly provide" or whatever, along the same lines they used to shut down Megaupload and other DDL sites, even though those sites claimed they were created to host legal content and were unaware of illegal activities etc. - this will protect search engines like Google.

So what should the new standard(s) be now that Nyaa is killed for good?
I could see a lot of people falling back on TT, but as it stands the site is not capable of handling Nyaa's level of traffic.
There's also the issue of centralization; Nyaa was the standard because it was a public tracker and nobody had to worry about enslaving to a ratio, but this also made it very vulnerable to any attacks and torrents died all the time because there was no reason to seed them, this is specially true for the porn and BD releases of old anime. Private trackers as effective as may be I can't see them becoming a proper standard, since they're based on scarcity and exclusivity of content.
If IRC returned as the standard would that fix the problem of centralization? As silly as it is even the secrit klub's "login" is enough of a deterrent for a lot of retards, so I can see the old days of hunting bots of individual groups for releases making a comeback as the standard for getting anime. Extra points since it'd probably be cumbersome enough to ward off the newfags that have never touched XDCC.
