The tv ending painted it as a positive thing, you still get to be yourself, although connect to other people mentally. You talk to the others, you can imagine a fantasy together, etc.

I always believed they could at least try a relationship after EoE, even if dysfunctional, i think they could learn a lot from each other.
I think its more probable to asuka die in the last rebuild and shinji loses it and trigger a full blown impact.

Details are still shady, but i think Rebuild is a sequel, where the world is shaped by shinjis subconcious desires without he knowing.

And she's not even able to escape her life because she can't just stop being Lilith. She's a lab rat who died three whole times while Asuka got to live.
