I'm a bit tired of this, to be honest. It's not bad, but it's everywhere, to the point where a story with adult main characters will make it clear they are all virgins, and sex is usually not an option in these kind of stories. It limits the possibilities of storytelling in a way: people have sex, even teenagers do, it's a part of life that can be fleshed out in a story without making it porn. I like seeing characters having intricate, multilayered relationships, seeing romances bloom and die out, but most romance manga will have the designated couple get together at the very end, without showing them actually having a romantic relationship. Sex is a tool when it comes to storytelling, and avoiding it like a plague while still sexualizing the characters to the point where them not having sex feels unrealistic, or making sure a couple with mutual romantic and sexual interest never consummates the relationship, is not using the tool right. I do understand the reasoning, though: the virginity cult is strong among otaku, both western and eastern. They don't care about plot as long as they get a pure waifu to fap to and a virgin mc to self-insert into. There are still works that incorporate the topic of sex into the story without messing it up, so I'm not complaining. It's just the way things are in mainstream.
