I only read till the part of her keeping the doggo holy beast but at one point during a trip to Dale's hometown, who happen to have a fetish for Assassins Creed, find a singer who happens to be a semen demon and they become friends although she says she's worried about a child so young being banished the way she did since demons hardly ever have kids that they are considered treasures.

It's really, really not a Usagi Drop. Latina never once, and this is really obviously the case too, thought of Dale as her parent or family. She was always looking at him as her love interest.

I never really saw Dale acting like her parent either. I always felt he was acting more like an overprotective brother at best.

Which is why it doesn't both me at all that they ended up together. It was so obviously going that way from the start.

I still think Latina is going to get pregnant and give birth to a daughter and then have to become a Demon King for some reason, thus making Dale have to 'defeat' a Demon King for the sake of his daughter.

Saw your post and got interested.
Open novelupdates and go to the translators website.
Open his newest release and see this:

>「Can I stay Dale’s side forever…」
>「When you disappear, Dale… frantically looks everywhere for you…」

Japanese quotation marks, and horrid English with probably no knowledge of Japanese at all.
So yeah, PROPERLY is the key word in the OP.

The fan translation of the LN is clearly a machine translation and garbage like 99% of all WN translations are, aka simply money printing machine translations for dumb fans.

Also, the one in the OP is an official, licensed translation.

You've also described the premise of Usagi Drop as well. Rin always thought of him as a love interest while Daikichi thought of her as a daughter. Same shit. Daikichi didn't make the first move, the daughter Rin did, just like in this story as well.
>>
>>156633131
The ending isn't what made Usagi Drop bad. It was everything after the time skip leading up to the ending that made it bad.

There's a 10 year difference.
Latina is 8 (but looks 5) while Dale was 18, when they first meet up.
Apparently she confesses her feelings when she turns 15.

But yeah, Dale basically dotted on her as if she was his child (hence the title)

You fucks all talking about "no blood relation makes it ok" are retarded. It's not that big of the deal if the girl thinks she has romantic feeling for her father (the guys ARE the girls' father), because she's confused. The disgusting part is the father who thinks "yeah, I've spent the last 18 years/decade trying to raise this girl right, but I guess I'll start fucking her now!" Not that guy, but do you really think a 14-15 years old girl's way of thinking is the same as a 25 years old's one ? It's not uncommon to see young girls developping feelings for their father or whatever authority figure is around, but that's not really the best recipe for a healthy relationship, as far as I'm concerned. And seeing a father answer positively to that seems disturbingly similar to taking advantage of those feelings.

Is there any study that actually proves this? Because the closest I've seen to this having any weight is that some people end up with partners that vaguely reflect their parents, but this is hardly a rule.

Sigmund Freud thought that young boys should all have a sexual attraction for their mothers, but pretty much everything he's said has been discredited by now, and I'm fairly certain this "girls are normally attracted to their dads" thing just developed from that.
>>
>>156640368
What makes a digital copy inherently bad? You are not paying for the physical paper and cardboard, you are paying for the information. A digital copy, once the DRM is removed (and in fact they sell DRM-free versions on their site) have many advantages over a physical copy. You can make as many backup copies as you like which unlike photocopying a physical book is totally lossless, you can extract images losslessly, you can print your own physical copies to read if you like paper. A physical book susceptible to pages turning yellow, cover getting bent, spine weakening and pages falling out, moths, etc.
>>
>>156642443
Why should I pay for literally nothing? Because that is what you are doing when you pay for digital.
If you pirate digital then I have no problem with that, in fact I think people should do that out of spite and also try to get as many people to not pay for it as possible, I just don't understand why people, especially in this day and age where it is a lot harder to make a buck than it was 20 years ago, are willingly to give money for literally nothing, while the person you are giving money to is making more money than they would if they had to actually give you something in return for your money.
>>

>>
>>156642845
>Why should I pay for literally nothing? Because that is what you are doing when you pay for digital.
How is it literally nothing? When you pay for a book you are paying for the information in the book. Not for some paper to use as a firestarter. Now the medium of that information is an arrangement of 1s and 0s into some HTML files embedded in a zip that can be backed up and printed many times over, instead of an arrangement of ink on dead trees that rots in tropical weather. They are both impermanent in their own way, the digital version is just easier to duplicate.

>>156655379
Is this applying to the WN ?
>>
>>156655448
Yeah, what he's saying is that he can keep translating the WN but has to take down any chapters corresponding to the LN volume currently being translated. In the past usually licensees like Yen Press would request entire series to be removed (see e.g. Haruhi and Spice & Wolf back in the early days of Baka-Tsuki)
>>
>>156655727
So you're saying that the author has no control or say over this and that it's all just wishful thinking?
>>
>>156655763
Looks like the Japanese publishers pretty much just hand all English publishing rights and responsibility of enforcing their copyright to J-Novel.
It doesn't affect the nipon publishers much because their market are Japanese readers anyways. For example, do you think Yen Press or Kadokawa would care much if you translated Death March into Lojban or Esperanto?
>>
>>156655763
>So you're saying that the author has no control or say over this and that it's all just wishful thinking?
Usually it's the publishers not the authors that take care of the whole C&D thing.
What I'm saying that the English licensees are being very lenient compared to other licensees in the past, and I'd have expected Japanese side to tell them to take a harder line given how Kadokawa and Shueisha themselves dropped a two nukes on B-T a while back. Not sure what you mean by wishful thinking.
>>
>>156655379
What the hell?

>>
>>156655987
>WN chapters are going to be taken down
Yes
>>
>>156655987
I'm someone else.
But going by the message, it looks like J-Novel is letting them hold onto WN chapters that J-Novel doesn't already have translated. At which point they'll remove them.

J-Novel specifically is pretty lenient about fan-translations, and basically say their policy for dealing with them is to out-perform them in translation speed and quality.
>>
>>156655727
Why would they want to take down WN when they only licensed the LN?
>>
>>156656058
>it looks like J-Novel is letting them hold onto WN chapters that J-Novel doesn't already have translated.

>>
Who are these j novel jews anyways? First I've heard of em.
>>
>>156655987
Perhaps your English is not so good so I will break it down into easy sentences.

1. The WN chapters will be slowly taken down in chunks, not all at once.

2. Each time the official translators start work on a new LN volume, only the WN chapters that match to that volume are removed. This happens roughly every 8 weeks.

3. Furthermore the WN translation of new chapters will continue.

3. This is very different to past behavior by official translators, who have ordered total cessation of fan translation and removal of everything that has been translated so far, not this piecemeal removal.
>>
>>156656108
>But by the message it also implies that they'll be allowed to put the chapters back up eventually, right?
No.

>He has also said that once I outpace the novels they wouldn’t really mind
What they mean is that even in the Japanese version, the WN is currently still far ahead of the LN, and he doesn't mind if the fan translator is working on WN chapters that aren't in LN form yet.

I was expressing my incredulity that the Japanese publishers don't tell the English publishers to take a harder line, because we know from past experience that even the Japanese publishers don't like the English fan translations (i.e. when Kadokawa and Shueisha dropped two nukes on Baka-Tsuki and Nanodesu)
>>
>>156656104
Because the LN is literally just a minor edit of the WN.

>>156656157
They are Gentiles.
>>
>>156656104

Decide for yourself. They're pretty new, and the founder pretty much started up out of his own pocket. They also actually have a forum on their site, unlike most publishers that sorta just tell you to email them for anything, and then never look at shit. Though, I guess their current business model relies on having a community, I guess..
>>
>>156656104
Because they are basically the same except for the illustrations?
>>
>>156656290
Yeah it relies pretty heavily on its community. I remember reading a post where one of them explains that they use their subscriber numbers as a bargaining chip when negotiating with publishers in order to convince them to allow them the license for whatever series they're trying to get. Sort of to reinforce the fact that they have a sizable enough install base for their stuff.
>>
>>156656157
so was a guy who got a PhD in particle physics or something, then he ended up running a fansub group for some reason, then he worked as a translator for Crunchyroll, then he did some networking in Japan that got him industry contacts. So he persuaded some smaller LN publishers in Japan that streaming books and digital-only publishing can totally work, and then he phoned up his fansubber pals and Crunchyroll pals and got them to translate books for him. And because they're totally digital-only they can run on an 8 week schedule instead of Yen Press's 16-week schedule, and they can start releasing the moment they announce a license instead of announcing a thing and then only starting to release 1 year later, and they haven't yet murdered any fan translations outright.
>>
>>156656467
The community also lets them cheap out on proofreaders since they're effectively crowdsourcing typo checks for weekly chapters from subscribers in advance of final volume publishing.

>>156658503
The DRM-free ebook is neat. I keep them on my computer, and in case I wanna read them off my phone, I can.
The Premium Ebooks also contain extras that aren't in the versions sold on Amazon and such. Like side-stories that were store-exclusives. And of course, you can also buy "credits" to buy more Premium Ebooks at a slight discount from the store price. Credits are like $6, and other stores sell them only about a dollar or two more, so it's not much, but if you plan to but multiple ebooks, it'll add up.

>>156658756
Are shitposters unable to identify spoiler-tagged texts as posts or what?
>>
>>156658503
I guess it's mainly worth it if you follow enough of their series that you were going to buy at least 1 book a month anyway. The cost per month of a premium sub (which also gives you one "free" credit a month) is equivalent to buying one book a month on any of the ebook stores. Since they run on a roughly 8 week schedule per volume, that means you would have to be following at least two of their series for it to be worth it.
Mostly you are giving up the convenience of read syncing across platforms which are offered by ebook stores like Kindle and Kobo. In exchange, you get the so-called "premium content", which varies from series to series, some are author interviews, some are bonus chapters from magazines or store exclusives that weren't part of the original book. And also the book you get is DRM free so you can use any reader you want, and has full resolution images (unlike Kindle which has some retarded size limits).

tl;dr how much do you care about bonus content

that's probably because Bunny Drop was written by an experienced josei manga writer who understands human interaction, while this was written by some amateur webfic scribe who just thinks "we need more cute".
>>
>>156615541
>>156615582

Looks like it might be worth a pirate
>>
>>156664067
Sad but true. Usagi had legit interaction and relationship, this shit is just retarded "CUTE CUTE CUTE CUTE CUTE" in MC's head.
>>
Japs sure love their wife raising.

Blame the Genji Monogatari for that.

My life is unique. That much, at least, I am pretty sure of.
I do not recommend getting a PhD in theoretical physics as a way of emigrating to Japan, however.
>>
>>156669050
thanks for completely fucking up the saki subs faggot
>>
>>156658503
I don't since they still have only one novel I'm interested in and that one I'm buying in Kobo.
>>
>>156640368
Then I presume you think pirating something digitally is fine, since it's "valueless" to you?

What you are doing is having your entertainment subsidized by everyone else who IS paying for it. You're the guy on welfare who keeps cheating the system so he never has to work in his life.
>>
>>156669050
So what's your master plan for getting people to cough up cash for Colour Wars?
>>
>>156648225
Two of our translators do work for CR, and 1 of our editors. Out of ~20 freelancers. 2 translators from CR took my translation test and failed, though.
>>
>>156656926
Eh, Yen Press has a market death grip by sole virtue of being in bed with Kadokawa, who are to LNs and manga and anime what the Coca Cola Company is to soft drinks. Meanwhile Vertical has Kodansha and Viz has Shueisha, that's the other big players. All these guys have are literally who labels like Overlap and HJ and maybe Pony Canyon.
>>
>>156655763
Actually the author probably has complete rights to control translations of the web novel.
So if web novel translators actually got permission directly from the author then I wouldn't fight it. That would seriously damage the author's ability to get their stuff published in Japan though... Any published author would be really foolish to just give away the rights to republish translations of their stuff for free.
Or, it might be the case that once the author agrees to have their book published as an LN they give up the rights to the WN and the fact they are able to post them to syosetsu is a specific carve out in the contract.

In cases like uchi no musume where the WN and LN are really 90% the same (maybe more) it's really hard to legally justify the rights are completely separate.

Are you going to get some stuff from GAGAGA at some point? Or are they as much anti-foreigners as they seem to be?
Or something from Famitsu Bunko?
>>
>>156669193
>>>156656170
Nostalgia. And the fact that it's so old, people have HEARD of it but haven't actually read it (I'm looking at you web novel people).
>>
>>156669193
>>156669050
More to the point, if Colour Wars, then why not Rokujouma?
>>
>>156669111
Ah the memories. That was an excellent learning experience though.
>>
>>156669730
But if they want to read it they can go to Baka Tsuki, it's right there and has been for years.
>>
>>156669476
Shueisha just licensed a book to Seven Seas (the monster girl doctor one), and Kodansha light novels line has never been published by vertical, so who knows? There's also Shogakukan, hero bunko, alpha polis, earth star... there's tons of LN labels that aren't under Kadokawa lines.
>>
>>156669786
Does Baka Tsuki actually compete with ebook sales #s? It's a good question.
All you people who sale pirating doesn't affect sales should also wonder about the answer to that.
>>
>>156669770
All I remember is muh official Mahjong Federation-approved terminologies vs muh Underwater japonaise sub purity.
>>
>>156669942
For a 13 book series which in total would cost like $80, which anyone who cared about already read in full, and which many people have forgotten because they weren't around in 2010?
>>
>>156670069
It has to do better than SisKan at least.
>>
>>156670150
But SisKan's translation costs are literally zero.
>>
>>156669193
There's no point in licensing something that has been completely translated by js06.
Honestly, nobody that's in their usual marketing range (people online who know even a little about scanlation and novel translation) will pay for a licensed translation if the free alternative is js06.
>>
>>156670181
Plot twist, they hired js06.
>>
>>156669770
Any chances of licensing more single volume titles like Brave Chronicle.
>>
>>156670308
We could definitely license more of those but... I feel like flooding the market with too many "titles" would dilute sales from other series...

Also, most 1 shot light novels are semi-pro works or contest winners. It's hard to tell how good something is without actually reading it.
>>
So given that there is no outright denial of Color Wars, in spite of previous outright denial of Clockwork Planet, that is effectively a confirmation of Color Wars, right?
>>
>>156669978
The official subs used European Mahjong Association's terminology for Riichi Mahjong, which were a bit whack. But honestly I don't think our fully untranslated with TL notes was the best approach either.

I personally wasn't really satisfied until Zenkoku-hen when we got help from this huge mahjong nerd to basically come up with English names for various hands and terms (while keeping basics like pon, ron, riichi, dora etc as-is), while also having fully untranslated terminology on a separate subtitle track (and we also had a choice for untranslated honorifics on/off, for a total of four subtitle tracks).

As I said: without the silly hoops and hurdles necessarily to make it worthwhile (ie. just let me buy the books directly for $6-7 a pop without needing to mess around with a subscription).

Also if you have an account already you still need to put in payment info to make use of the 'springcatchup', right? That's what it seemed like when I looked at it the other day at least.

Do you even take any licensing suggestions somewhere or are you guys picking them yourselves and keep ignoring people who suggest something like the anon earlier in this thread?

>>156671084
What else have they got?
HJ Novels which is also producing only shit.
HJ Bunko? I can't really see anything worthwhile at a glance either. Well, apart from Rokujouma, which is at least fun.

There's Bluesteel Blasphemer, which they actually got, and since I like Sakai I thought it would be something but in the end, it's not.
>>
>>156671400
IIRC their licensing suggestion thread is mainly something to show to the Japanese side to tell them "these are things our base is interested in". Unfortunately most of them seem to be recommending WN isekai tueeeee trash.

>>156670497
Please try and license Schwarzesmarken. Contact Alternative Projects if you have to to get them to back you, they did manage to get the game version greenlit on top of raising over a million dollars to publish the original Muv-Luv duology so that base of potential willing buyers is no joke.

Also, why do DxS and "Ningen" not want their real names on Arifureta?
>>
>>156670497
Also, are you actually announcing the galaxy one later today?
>>
>>156669978
the problem wasn't the choice of terminology, even though a lot of it just sounds retarded

the really issue was terms were mistranslated or confused for different ones, like yaku and han were confused
when an anime is based on a game and you explain the rules of the game wrong because you never bothered to research it properly you have clearly failed your audience
>>
>>156670735
IIRC you have to put in payment info but you can just cancel right afterwards.
>>
>>156672649
That's just stupid.
The problem is that you have to put in the info, and that's all that matters.

Remind me again once they offer payment via PayPal and without me having to give them personal information.
>>
>>156670497
Wait, Quarkboy, you shouldn't advertise here.
>>156670735

>>
>>156672753
AFAIK they're not processing the info themselves, it is all handled by Stripe which is basically a somewhat less retarded PayPal as far as merchants are concerned, so it ought to be secure.
>>
>>156672773
I guess it's not really an advertisement if he's just replying to Daiz?
