What made the Soul Society Arc so good?

Aizen

It was about a Black Sun trying to save his White Moon.

Too me it was the introduction to soul society, a place we heard a lot about but never really knew anything. That combined with a nice camp save the damsel story and the introduction to a varied cast of likable characters and the red herring Aizen. All coming together into a nice well rounded arc, the best work Kubo pulled off after he kinda tried to repeat the same magic formula and failed.

The sense of finality and the story seeming to be wrapping up. Even the things we complain about a lot in Bleach like 5 second 500 year power ups were present, but it was all cool because it felt like the finale so allowances were made so they could go all out. After this arc and including its ending was a crap ton of "You thought it was like this BUT REALLY IT WAS LIKE THIS" Kubo-twists that seemed to add nothing but drag out the series and kill my interest in it.

Soul Society actually felt like a different world populated by people, as opposed to Mexico or whatever the fuck Wandenreich was.

>the story had a clear direction( save Rukia before the time limit)
>lots of new interesting characters introduced
>great fights
>the "villains" are just doing their job, while Ichigo and his friends are breaking the rules
>BAN... KAI
>nice ending with the Aizen twist opening the door for future events
