Serpico was the only one he really didn't interact with and had more of a mutual respect towards. Why was Golden Age so good guys? I know it's a meme to call it Shakespearean, but it felt so "human". It was a bildungsroman, a love story, it had comedy without feeling forced and moments of sheer horror (like meeting Zodd for the first time and of course the eclipse, and it had great pages on action. It was introspective without being corny, it was just, it had all the right ingredients and balanced everything so well. I mean it wasn't perfect and Wyald's shit dragged on too long on top of being almost too edgy but otherwise it just hit all the right notes. There will never be another golden age arc, and I doubt I'll ever have an experience similar to reading it for the first time as well as seeing the eclipse in all its glory.

I personally think that miura is just finished. Like he doesn't want to continue it anymore, you can see this very frequently with artists that get praised to no end.

I really wonder what people who have been following this since the 90s must feel like. You have this young hungry mangaka who is on track to making the greatest manga ever. And you honestly feel like he will do it, but arc after arc the quality slowly declines until it just becomes unreadable, man it's depressing honestly.

It feels like the tone is shifting in berserk, but that's not a bad thing. Guts had plenty of time to react to the trauma that was the eclipse. He was selfish and recognized that. His going off to hunt apostles accomplished nothing and only left casca alone again. He's trying not to be alone anymore because he accepts he can't do everything. It's a coming to terms with his own limitations which is hard for a man that is drowning in magic and fantasy. He doesn't forgive griffith but his priorities don't give him the ability to handle anything involving him at the moment. Because he is a threat, he will almost certainly be dragged back into it, whether it be by casca, rickert, or his inability to keep his own beast in check.

As far as art quality, it's nice when miura gets gorgeous detailed pages but for chapters that are all about moving the story along, how badly do you need a fucking masterpiece to accompany your speech? If i had to guess, surely there has been pressure on miura to increase his output, but he has other things going on as well. If there is an anime or a game for the work he is primarily known for, wouldn't that obligate some interaction with the team behind it? Also, i know very little of miura's home life. I've heard the idolmaster stuff but not anything past that. Is he busy just in his personal life?

Tl;dr: stories with characters that evolve are fun. Personally not expecting much art quality from a manga but love when it's there.

Calling it a 'fantasy' or 'escapism' is just covering up what it really was. Demons are abominations and Guts wanted to kill them. He's right to hate them, they're scum.

Also, you can't criticize Guts for 'escapism' when the only other survivor became a literal retard to cope with the events.
