So people only like this show for its art/shipping potential right? because the writing is so boring and juvenile I can't understand why its not being marketed exclusively to children and being aired on Cartoon Network or the Disney Channel.

Ok, I'm a retard. I tried to translate the 7th Word a few threads ago and failed, because I couldn't find "shnios" anywhere. Well, turns out I trusted GNU Aspell too much and there exists an actual Irish word "shníos". I should've tried to google that one right away.

Anyway the 7th Word of Arcturus is "fanann aisling shníos".

"Fanann" is present indicative analytic of "fan", which means "wait, stay". "Aisling" can either be the noun "dream, vision", or the verb "dream of". "shníos" is past synthetic (1st person), or present direct relative of "snigh", which means "flow".

Fanann is analytic, which means it needs a subject. Therefore "aisling" should be a noun here. "Fanann aisling" means "Dream waits" or "Dream remains". (Note that the sentence order in Irish is Verb-Subject-Object, so it's correct.)

Now, "shníos" is past synthetic (1st person), so it means "I flowed" by itself. As such, it seems that the whole Word can't be a single sentence. Of course, it might still be an error from Trigger. They made one already in word 5 (the first 'a' in 'athraddodiad'). If the Word was "fanann aisling a shníos", then a present relative clause 'a shníos' would emerge and the translation would be "Dream, that flows, waits", which makes some sense.

But as it is, the only gramatically correct translation of this Word I can see is "Dream waits. I flowed."

I know, but the whole kickstarter shebang was definitely designed to court us. I heard this show was doing extremely well in Japan for a midnight slot a few months ago.

I just have problems with how little the writers seem to be trying to give this show any kind of tension or narrative heft. Ep 9 did this by having actual consequences for Akko and co.'s fucking around with magic, and the skeleton guy had an actual arc. I wish every episode was like that.
There also doesn't seem to be any rules governing the magic, which is fine, but there's no reason to have your story set in a school unless you intend to teach the viewer about the lore and magi/its rules. Akashic Bastard or whatever is unapologetically dumb but even it gets this right.
I just think such a lovingly crafted production should have equally nuanced and artisinal writing. All the characters are just so one-note. Akko's pretty much a failure so why doesn't she ever get depressed? She doesn't have to be Shinji Ikari but a little range of emotion would go a long way.
I've heard the story's going to pick up in episode 19 but if that's the case why didn't they just make it a beautifully animated 7 episode OVA instead of wasting our time with so much filler that hardly develops the characters at all?

I know this has nothing to do with your point I just felt like venting sorry. Feel free to crucify me now.

It's pretty obvious what the final Word is actually about and it's something that actually ties Akko to both Diana and Ursula. None of the Words have been grammatically correct but the most sensible sort of meaning you can attach to "flowing dream remains" is a "no matter what happens, I won't lose sight of my dream" sort of idea, which makes perfect sense in the context of the story and ties in to what Yoshinari said the main theme of LWA was since the original OVA: "don't forget the feelings of wonder of your childhood".

It's a framework they could have used to put out more interesting shit. The problem is they're wasting it, doing nothing with it. Akko learning patience could have been pretty awesome since Akko is hyper energetic by nature, but instead they decided to go for a mediocre gag thing. Same with with the next word. Why wasting it with Amanda? I mean, she's cool and all, but has nothing to do with tradition. I would have used a plot involving Finneran for that word, since she's the character that represents tradition the most, to an obnoxious degree, actually.

Basically, they should have made things harder for Akko, to show that learning this stuff matters, that she's developing as a person.

The mcguffin isn't the problem. The execution is shit.
