SAC is a watered down kid friendly version of GITS compared

Mammary Oishi's movie is completely different from the manga.

SAC/SolidState is closer to the manga. Though sanitized of Shirow-ness for tv.

Not really the movie is just Oshii doing his usual thing. SAC is closer to the original manga and does not lack in complexity of ideas or plot, compared to the movie, not really aimed at kids.

They're two different takes on the same manga. SAC is closer to the manga, complete with the Major's sex friends and natural oil for the Tachikoma.

Visually yes, which is inevitable when comparing a stand alone movie to a 52 episode TV series. Despite this GITS SAC had pretty standout animation as a TV show for the time and holds up incredibly well even today. Thematically not really, if anything GiTS SAC used its extended time to explore far more and run deeper with its central themes than the movie could have. Not that the movie did any of this poorly, but the series simply had far more to work with from a narrative standpoint given how much more time it had to work with.

While the tone is different all the action scenes and much of the dialogue is ripped right from the manga verbatim.

Only real changes are The Major's personality ( she doesn't start acting like she does in Oshii's movie until the latter half

The Tank scene plays out differently in the manga

And the ending has her in a male body as opposed to a little girl.
