anidb has a list of encodes per show. If it's a highly rated subtitle that hasn't been put on a high quality source yet it's safe to do so. As long as your release trumps an existing release (chapters > unchaptered) etc it's going to replace the old one and that's considered a contribution. It's called cross seeding, and no it doesn't affect download. They don't determine how much you download / upload from just you clicking the download torrent button. Everyone connected to AB announces how much they've uploaded and to who. They figure out how much you download when your own client announces it to them, or another client that uploaded to you does.

Make sure the trackers don't merge. Easiest way is just to delete the torrent and only use the AB one. Just make sure you set the download location to the same place as where the Nyaa files are. Click recheck and you should be good from there.

Invites haven't been implemented yet, they are trying to fix a massive database failure first, which honestly coupled with the mayor tracker downtime seems like it's going to kill them off for good.

I have a lot of older series downloaded already because I knew that someday these sites we all use and take for granted would eventually be shut down, but I find myself not really being able to watch them when I try. I tried watching LOGH at one point, for example, and I made it to maybe ep 6 or 7 before realizing that I was bored and couldn't finish it if you paid me. The artwork is not as cute, the animation is less fluid and the backgrounds are often less detailed, which takes me out of the experience. I'm not being faux-ironic. I really do enjoy anime more if it looks good and has lots of cute girls doing cute things. Most old anime just doesn't do it for me.

All that will change for me now that BBT is private is how I use NT and how I download new seasonal anime.

I mainly used BBT to find bluray releases of recent and older series, but many of those can be found elsewhere, just less well seeded. For example, I recently downloaded all the original Macross series from NT. They're all there in good quality. You may just not find them all done by the same sub group and equally well seeded.

Also, there are a lot of unpopular seasonal anime that stop being seeded because they are forgotten about pretty quickly, and BBT was really the only place I could find many of those shows several years after broadcast.

Even then, there are still anime - and releases of anime - that are hard to find after a certain amount of time has passed.
