Legend of the Galatic heroes is getting another anime adaptation soonish so that's a good 3-4 seasons of sci-fi that's gonna be one of the top contenders for AOY every year so yeah, I think so too. It should at least have a long enough run to inspire a lot of authors.

To answer OP seriously and as a LN fag that saw Isekai wave coming 4+ fucking years ago. The only replacement will be anime original content, completely dependent on the level of the writers and artists. No new manga or Novel series right now is seriously unique enough for adaption.

WUXIA escapism themes from China. It tends to be more extreme forms of mary sue characters and has higher power levels and skills in plotting.

Besides being a new source of material, it also coincides with the entry of chinese companies putting out "anime" of their own such as Ten Cent and the other chinese companies contracted by the japanese anime studios.

The audience has been desensitized towards high levels of mary sue characters in SAO and Mahouka. So the more extreme chinese versions of SAO and Mahouka will work.

In WUXIA, the chinese protagonists are often ruthless, crooked, or even evil. But the story is told from their whitewashed perspectives, so the audience ends up rooting for them.

I can't really say there's much hope for it, but I'd like to see a return to form post-irony and maybe extension of new sincerity kick in. A rejection of the "with a twist" settings, "not serious because parody" formats, stacked multimedia derivations, and ip parading.
Even though it'd ultimately be a passing trend, an age of fantasy that is genuine rather than "above" itself would be refreshing.

The current trend in Isekai actually spread in China, where wish fulfilling web novels have been immensely popular for over a decade, an the industry is billion dollar strong.

The isekai genre has been a staple in China since 2000, so it won't go away any time soon.

That being said, Japan produces far more quality work, so you can already see tons of subversions of the baseline trope like Rezero and Recreators, it won't get that old.

The classics were the first wave of WNs, around 2007.
Nowdays every book is a literal mimic of earlier books peddling the same basic wish fulfillment with absolutely zero attempt of telling a grander theme. For male audience books its about gaining some sick power and then getting a harem (regardless of the setting be it isekai or just urban fantasy).
For female books its like 50 shades of grey but tuned up to 11, every female book has an ordinary female protag chased by a squad of highly successful, handsome, and aggressive men .
