He's the serious logical counterpoint to and the brother of the hotblooded shonen MC. Just one of those things would've resulted in this subplot and with both there's really been no question. I've honestly been dreading his whole subplot since the Impure King Arc. It's just tiresome to have a character slowly just fuck everything up for themselves.

I think one of the main problems is that, since it's meant to be a pretty major storyline (compare it to Shima's or Eyebrow's), the author's going to drag it out until we're closer to the end of the manga. It's a terrible plan because that mean's Yukio's going to be a little bitch for most of the series.
