Haven't watched this show since 2004 and wish I could engage in this discussion a bit more, but I honestly don't remember much about it aside from the fact that I enjoyed it.

I do however agree with the people saying that what makes it a good story is that it's not a perfect one, with a planned out destination or clear insinuations on which side is right and wrong. In fact, I liked how it was quite open about how the MC's actions more or less led to his destruction, but that it was still somehow okay.

It was the story of two people who were ultimately quite troubled, but happy.
