Thoughts on the new berserk? >inb4 shit animation The 2016

The 2016 animation and use of CGI was god awful, see "clang rabbit". The continuation of the story for 2017 feels more polished but still lacking. I feel like they could have pulled off the animation better if they had used a similar animation style to Blackrock Shooter.

The first half was necessary to build up tension and give you perspective on just how fucked up everything turns out, and even then the golden age arc is a very well-written, enjoyable story in its own right. You need to watch less ADHD oriented media and learn to appreciate restrained storytelling.

I'm reading the manga for the first time and watching the episodes after as a recap, the anime really doesn't do it justice. There's a lot of stuff left out or rushed that makes it look like stupid confusing action with a shitty story. Reading Serpico's backstory I was like damn, I love this. Watching it, I was like wow this looks so dumb. Berserk is probably the only manga I'll ever read but I'd really recommend it over the anime.

Anyone got a link to a good version of the new eps?

I'm rereading the series for shits and giggles, since I'm 15 chapters or so behind in the manga.

I'm currently at the scene right before the Eclipse.
My question is, did Caska sleep with Griffith when he was a broken mess and lunged on top of her in the carriage?
The next scene after that is Guts talking to Judeau, and then talking to the group of mercenaries. After talking, it is now somewhat sunset and he walks over to Caska who is holding her stomach and crying by the carriage.

I'm wondering if she cheated on Guts right then and there, but I could be reading too much into this.

Because that demon span that comes out of here could either be Guts or Griffiths at this point. I can't remember, that's why I'm rereading this.

I never got that impression from that scene, I'd be surprised if Griffith even had anything functional down there after the torture. But I just looked at it again and now that you mention it it does kind of look that way. But still I'd find it hard to believe they had sex, I think they just hugged and Casca just feels bad about him being in such bad shape.
Seeing as they had actual demon-sex right after this I'd assume the demon child is the result of that.

So I finally caught up to the latest chapter in Berserk (saw the Golden Age movies first, followed by '97 anime and a episode of 2016), can confirm that Manga is best medium for Berserk. There's so many little details, maybe unimportant to the plot at large but massively important for character motivations. '97 did an admirable job, and less and less effort was made starting with the movies, and finally 2016. Its a god damned shame, but to be a Berserk fan is to suffer.

Also I worry we're gonna get to Elfheim in the anime really fast. The whole Sea God arc felt like massive filler so the gang can have a rollicking sea adventure, and then important stuff starts happening again

At least the opening is god-tier

The BD ver. is ok or at least is passable, 6.5/10

Yeah. I wish the 1997 anime just kept going like the other 500 episode shows that exist. I feel like a Berserk anime should really just take it's sweet time and cover everything in the manga. The action and violence is great but it's all the little aspects of the main story and all the other characters stories that make it so good for me.

I honestly don't give a shit about the CG animation, it's fine. I'm watching it because it's Berserk. They're moving through the manga at a good pace, no filler. The *CLANG* has actually become endearing to me. The voices are pretty decent, no standouts but they all fit.

My favorite part is the music though, it's excellent.

Yeah but LOTS of shows get poor quality adaptations or none at all -- look how long it took Jojo to finally get off the ground (last season was very poorly animated too).

There would be no Berserk show otherwise, so I can deal with it. I didn't hear people complain much about Ajin or Sidonia, and they look just as bad/good.

Agree that the music is kickass, that is at least one consistent thing.
