If the dimension Oikawa opened a portal to was the dark ocean and they ended up having to save the world from Dagomon, that would have been a pretty satisfying finale.

02 was comfy as fuck though. And the Christmas episodes are some high levels of festive comfiness.

The epilogue is the only thing I'd change. I was a kid and suddenly all my heroes were adults with deep voices and had sons and boring responsibilities, that was depressing as fuck.

Remember Ophanimon falldown mode is the corrupt warp shinka. The correct shinka will be Holydramon after Taichi succeeds into getting Hikari out of her freaking out.

The bad thing is Taichi is likely to lash out at everyone at certain point. Yamato's "I expect too much of him" line in OVA 4 is a slight hint there will be a major conflict and fight between them.

I think the first two arcs of Digimon 02 are pretty good.

The Digimon Emperor was a pretty compelling antagonist and the concept that he was disabling Digivolution which is why we needed new protagonists was fun. The team dynamics were pretty solid, although the whole one-sided "I'm the protagonist not you," tension between Davis and TK kind of overwhelmed everything else and then it never REALLY paid off because Davis' story ended up tied mainly to Ken's.

The 2nd Storyline with Arukenimon and Mummymon and the gradual discovery of the DNA Digivolutions and Champion forms is kind of plodding because of how inept those two are as antagonists, but there's a few solid episodes in there and when Blackwargreymon shows up that arc really justifies itself.

Things really only start to fall apart during the World Tour, which is a shame because its a great concept and there's several classic episodes in that lot, including Blackwargreymon's finale and the Dark Ocean. But the whole thing just starts to fall apart due to inconsistencies and long-term things never paying off and plotlines getting dropped and hamfisted plot twists and everything else about 02 that sucked basically taking over everything good all the way to the end and the shitty Harry Potter Epilogue.

02 is probably the worst digimon, but I still have a soft spot for it because of those first two arcs and the few all-star episodes peppered throughout.

On to another topic entirely: It disturbs me how the Chosen Children just don't give a fuck about the 02 kids. They didn't give a shit that they were gone, they didn't really care that much that Ken seemed to be the Emperor again, they didn't care that they ostensibly fucking killed V-Mon and Wormmon- I mean, in retrospect I don't really like 02 save for some parts (for example BlackWargreymon) but it just seems like bad fanfiction or something to me.

And not just the 02 part. All of it, up to Meiko and Meicomon. (Or however the fuck you spell that again)

The Kaiser arc took way too long, real and in-universe time. The seven Adventure Chosen already obtained all of their Crests, and defeated 3 villains, by the time Ken suddenly has his epiphany. And it took the 02 kids roughly five months to finally attempt to bring him down instead of farting around and going on picnics.

The second batch of villains were completely ineffectual and confusing. What was their goal when telling BlackWarGreymon to destroy everything? Weren't they put in the Digital World by Oikawa (somehow) to allow him to cross over (because distortions)? Why would Oikawa want the Digital World destroyed?

Imagine a cyberpunk universe where Digiworld is actually the Matrix (the big internet cliché) and Digimon are sentient programs. Some of them works for industrial espionage and cyber terrorism, other are working for the good guys.
Digievolution would be an artificial/manual improvement in the code of Digimons and the villain could be a bad digimon who tries to hack human brains willing to incarnate into an actual human body. Their owners can both be criminals and policemen (trying to not bring just children to the cast) with body modification and all the stuff implied in the genre. Dna Digievolution is the Digimon who fuses with the nanomachines in the body of the owner altering their structure and giving him all the power of calculation and processing of an artificial intelligence.
Add a good amount of blood and some important deaths in the cast.

In this universe digimons are not data, but softwares, created for various puroposes.
The villain could be a programm that rebels to their creators and wants to hack a brain while it is connected to Digiworld in order to reincarnate (just to say, it is more about the universe than the actual plot right now).
Digievolution has always meant to be an upgrade, it was more a way to explain than an actual innovation.
DNA Digievolution is what I said. The brain is a fusion of human and program, so way smarter. The body contains nanomachines that modify the structure of the body (see plugs, artificial arms and so on) so maybe your cybernetic arm can become the cannon of Rizegreymon, you can grow wings and cover yourself in armor.
