Unless they do all their research beforehand, they don't really have the time. For manga that have guns as a major factor (especially with characters who are supposed to know how to use them) there's no excuse, but such manga are kind of rare; apart from that the japanese aren't exactly the biggest gun nuts, granted even watching a handful of western movies should be enough to tell you that generally the shoulder should be braced.

In OP's image, Golgo should probably have the research done considering how many assistants the mangaka hires; he has no excuse to not have sent one of them off to do some research. Granted, maybe they did do their research and it was the anime that fucked it up, which case the anime staff have even less of an excuse.

It's not particularly legit at all. Eggplantman made it up essentially as a one-off verbal-visual gag (about it being "lewd") that became more popular and asked-about than he intended originally.

Have you ever seen a binocular sniper scope? There's more to depth perception then two eyes and even if there wasn't, snipers use range finders.

The item here is that a cyclops with one very large eye would have more rods and cones than someone with two normal eyes. More rods and cones, more "pixels", better resolution. That's the idea at least and it makes enough sense in the context of the manga.

That's not my point, and I'm not interested what the state of whatever society I'm in is. I think the idea that an individual should not have immediate access to personal offensive and defensive capabilities is strange. I don't care if Iive in the safest place on the planet, I like to be able to hold my life in my own hands. And it's not juts guns either. All sorts of technological advancements are unavailable to civilians for personal use. Of course, if I really needed them I wouldn't wait for permission, but it's still an irritating thing. It's fine and all if other people want to put their safety and lives in the hands of the state, but I prefer not to. it's an absurdly accurate weapon. of course how that girl is holding it is a problem, no way she'd actually be looking down the sights with that type of grip on the gun. in fact the first guy better be missing an arm else he'd not be particularly accurate either.

The one on the bottom is mostly holding his weapon right, though why he'd be sniping from an exposed position is beyond me. it's ok if he wants to be on a higher position then the foliage, but he can't be on the "highest" point, he'd be spotted quickly there.

I might agree with this in principle and very much support that ideal, but history does not agree. Most civilizations are about passing the responsibility onto someone up the chain, starting with the Pharaohs wanking off into the Nile to ensure a good flood and thus a good harvest and all the way to representative democracy where you vote for someone else to make choices for you.

Safety is not my concern, the ability to attack enemies and defend against them is something I want to be in my own hands. I think it's absurd that a living creature would give up the ability to be the keeper of it's own life. Of course a group will have more innate ability to defend and attack than an individual, but I would rather be armed myself with no allies, than unarmed with a thousand allies. At its core, civilization is about people coming together to work for a common good. Civilization is all about collective responsibility, helping others so others help you and giving up the fruits of your labor so you can enjoy the fruits of the labor of others.

These days, we are coming close to a technological level where personal responsibility actually becomes a concern, and in the future technology will enable more and more people to decouple from society at large, but we're not there yet.
