If you can write a good character, you can write a good character. You can give that character the appearance and looks you want.

Dragon Ball is a franchise of fights and battle, and males are the ones who fight, with one or two exceptions. You're gonna have more to choose from one gender than the other.

How are they going to do it? In a previous thread last week some people threw in some cool ideas.
I think that now that they found Casca's broken hollow shell and carefree nature, they're going to find her "insides" near that piramid. Maybe as a flesh and bones with no skin Casca fighting the monsters (or more likely being continually raped by them).
Then Farnese and Schierke would help her and reunite Casca's shell and her insides. Since they can't just glue old casca's shell on what's left of her, they would try to help her make a new skin for herself. After some symbolism stuff, they get out of the dream and we have Casca back.

She would be very weak after the potato phase and would feel useless. She would understand all the weight Guts have been carrying for both of them and would try to push her further than ever to have his back.

I see her becoming a witch more than a swordman again. With Shierke teaching her too and surpasing them both, Shierke and Farnese.

She would fight hand in hand with Guts against Griffith.
Guts with the sword, Casca with her magic, Griffith with himself and probably all three of them dead by the end.

Magic is not limited to apostles, it's something that all humans can learn in that world. But it takes years to do anything barely useful.
Apostles are humans who turned into demons (the godhand turned them into demons) and have superhuman abilities. We didn't see any of the apostles doing magic (except if you count breathing fire and things like that as magic).
The Godhand can do a lot of "magic" though, but they are superior to apostles.
Really, just read the manga because the anime you are watching is adapting like the latter 1/3 of the story and it's a mes explaining so much shit in one post.

There also doesn't seem to be any "good" or even positive gods or forces in the world. It's basically just the God Hand, right? To borrow from traditional fantasy, there just seems to be chaotic evil, lawful evil, and chaotic neutral.

Overall, this series seems pretty nihilistic. Especially from the protag/Guts perspective. It's a no-win situation for him against Griffith, and the apostles, in any practical sense unless Miura pulls a deus ex machina.

there are countless stories of individuals with limitless power and heavenly favor who try to fight and defeat equally powerful and dvil foes, and the undeniably futile efforts of guts to avenge the loved ones he's lost were made tremendously heroic and endearing because of that. it really gave weight behind his epithet of "struggler," because despite the insurmountable power his enemies wield he'd defeat them or die trying, and for many chapters he's constantly on the precipice of death.
Fantasia has really changed all of that. The berserker armor kind of implies or gives credence to the possibility of Guts eventually having enough strength to go toe to toe with the god hand the same skull knight does, who seems to have undergone similar trials. I'm still not sure what i think about the power creep that was entirely absent from berserk for so long will mean for the story now that its here, but berserk is unique in that it presented the power of guts's enemies very early on, as opposed to the constant power leapfrog of typical shonen stories. We'll see, hopefully.

The issue that presents itself now is the new world, in addition to Griffiths military.

Griffith has an army of monsters and apostles. Guts struggled with plenty of monsters and always struggled against apostles, and now they're organized all under Griffith, a member of the God Hand. Guts needed the boost, because the world got more dangerous. In the regular world, Guts wielded just a larger-than-average greatsword and he handled the world around him very well. After the eclipse, Guts needed a boost, and ended up with knives, a repeating crossbow, a fucking cannon, and the Dragonslayer. Now, after Griffith's resurrection or whatever you want to call it, and the Neo Band of the Hawk, Guts needed another boost because the enemies are getting harder. Could Golden Age Guts fight against the Sea God? He'd put up a fight, but at best he'd die trying. Likewise, Fantasia Guts would entirely decimate all of pre-Eclipse Berserk.

Despite the advantages, however, Guts remains underpowered,even with the Berserker Armor. There's still weight here, and he hasn't stopped struggling, nor has it been made much easier

I don't mind that. It's key to most literary conflicts. But most of those conflicts are resolved. Usually there is a some sort of hope, chance or opportunity that presents itself during a story where odds can either be overcome or resolved. Even if it's not really the case, the reader is led to believe it's a possibility.

The way Berserk is presented made it seem like the MC is going up against literal gods as nothing more than a man or, at best, a man enhanced with armor powered by lesser evil,. It's conclusion, with the rules established, is already foregone. At a certain point it takes away from the actual "ride". It seems the only real option for Guts is to either convince Griffith/apostles to forfeit their power or find a niche in this new world to live a normal life as best he can.

But the story initially drew it's strength from Guts "solving" his problems with his natural talent and ability at physical battle. He's not really known for much else. So even those options seem moot.

I wonder if the outline for the story was really thought out this far when he started writing it back in the 90s.

No I do not and I will tell you why. Miura set him up as an INCREDIBLY sympathetic character. He was a great leader whose noble dream was to have a kingdom even though he was lowly trash. At the time of the eclipse and when the godhand were attempting to manipulate him he remembered the little boy that died willingly for his cause and then and there he realized that if he did not accept then all his men's deaths would be in vain and that it would be all for nought.

His decision, even if it was manipulated by the godhand, is a prime example of the means justify the ends. Guts surviving wasn't part of the plan and I doubt griffith realized what guts was capable of. This is why the rape of casca was included, because Griffith was just too sympathetic to the audience. Killing his band(which was pretty much mostly dead at this point anyway) was worth it.

The only thing people have against griffith is the rape. Had it not happened you would see even MORE griffith sympathizers. Imagine for a moment that the rape didn't occur and that griffith didn't accept the deal. The hawks would've been hunted down, griffith would be physically and mentally destroyed, all the work and lives that had been spent up to that point would've been for nothing and the kushan would've probably raped all of midland anyway.
