Since we're talking about this stuff here's a fun trivia to bump the thread: early into Lupin first publication MP was at a restaurant where he was approached by two western tourists. As they learnt he was a mangaka they asked him to draw something so MP did some Lupin sketches for them on the spot but they didn't receive any praise, the gaijin felt let down instead. When MP asked why they explained they didn't look "oriental" at all.

It was an annyversary special, the doubles are supposed to be the people Lupin inspired over the years, but you can't show them all acting like Lupin, so they had to go visual to make the viewers understand, therefore the same faces

The subtext of the legacy (new writers and animators will continue to handle Lupin) is not that explicit, no wonder is one of the most hated movies.

Greatest characters is probably the main reason. Most shows have trouble making the main character decent. With Lupin, not only is the main character incredibly charismatic and a joy to watch, but even all the secondary character are also amazing. That's what kept it going for the past 50 years.

Lupin is so ridiculously sexy. It's easy to create chiseled-jawed flaxen-maned 8-pack dudes, but Lupin represents real, timeless masculine attractiveness. Hairy but not a brute, youthful but not a child, full of confidence and optimism. Even through all of his revisions over the years, he never loses what makes him so special.

Lupin had abs in part 4. What I appreciate the most about the design is the fact he has normal fucking hair. I never understood the appeal of Japanese hairstyles for men. There are many different takes on Lupin made in these 50 years, light, dark, funny, sad, edgy, comfy, serious, goofy. If you still have problems with green jacket, try the blue one from 2015. It seems like a good modern interpretation, sort of a love letter to the franchise using all of its strengths.
