Oh my. It does seem OOC though. It's not like they established his character to fool around much. Though I suppose Nagai meant for that scene where he's established to avoid wedding proposals to be interpreted this way. Moreover, Gaelio's core caracterization is that of a reliable, loyal friend. Even the OST references this ("Revenge of the Faithful'). But then again just because people are loyal in their "frienships" doesn't mean they're loyal in love and buttpartners.
Oh well, better not look too much into it. Gaelio was probably designed to fit numerous interpretations of his character, and Nagai is probably just trying not to drop a hot potato. Of course contradictions are going to appear.

Yeah, this is what bothers me about the damage control. Gali's been established as a loyal character, like you said, so trying to make the no homo seem less out of left field by making the "running away from marriage offers" thing just be "oh he doesn't like to commit" feels incredibly stupid to me.

Honestly, I'd like to see how they'd explain his weird jealousy/uncaring attitude towards Almiria. Because without him being gay for Macky, which they're never going to say, it really doesn't make sense. These traits and hints aren't islands surrounded by the sea that never connect with one another. A character is a whole. It just makes much more sense for Gaelio to be gay for Macky than "he's a loyal guy but oh did I mention he doesn't like to commit?" "also he's a dick with his sister, no reason". What's next? "He cared more about McGillis being inconvenienced by the wedding than his own 8 years old sister being inconvenienced by a wedding because he worried about his best friend's sex life"? "btw the reason he's always watching Macky is because he's trying to drill a hole in the back of his head with the imaginary lasers in his eyes"?. Since he couldn't do that, he might as well encourage him to find anyone else, since clearly he wasn't good enough to change his mind and he's still not happy about his engagement to Almiria.

Lack of character developement was very deliberate actually. I saw the "no they're not developed" phrase repeatedly in the interviews leading up to the second season. Seiyuus were even complaining they wanted to portray their characters with their newfound developement but were getting shot down by the sound director. Tekkadan characters were never meant to develop because they wre always supposed to be fodder eventually getting slaughtered by Gjallarhorn. And their lack of developement was meant to justify that. "They're just terrible people who never learn and need to perish." That's what Nagai wanted but Okada realized that this is going to leave a lot of people pissed, so they changed the ending into a "happier one" where some of them survive and start new lives. Though this also forced them to change Rustal's character in the last minute as well and that's where the "he's actually into freedom!" bullshit comes from. They didn't realize this actually made a lot things worse. If Rustal was on Tekkadan's side all this time then all their deaths and sacrifices seem a lot more pointless in retrospect, it also gives this very mean-spirited vibe to the ending and makes it look like the whole show has been just a Gjallarhorn propaganda piece.

This I'll agree with though. The pacing in IBO is atrocious, and far, far too much screentime was wasted on shit that either didn't matter or Okada/Nagai clearly weren't interested in. Since they wanted to focus on Gjallarhorn so much I don't know why the fuck they made Tekkadan the focus.

I'm just saying the abysmal writing for Tekkadan all throughout the S2 is not an accident. Neither Okada nor Nagai gave a fuck about Tekkadan. Rustal was supposed to win since the beginning and dominate the world but never change it. "IBO's universe is fundamentally static and no changes can ever occur" - Nagai. Yes I know this is retarded and that's the reaction Japan has at the moment. Nagai was a Rustalfag and he seems a little pissed at Okada for making him turn Rustal in a quasi-good guy at the end. Okada doesn't give a fuck, she just wanted Gaelio to have a happy end and was also enamoured with his seiyuu whom she allowed to dictate to her what to do with the character.

Forgot to add that yeah, Shino got a bit development because he seems to be the only character from Tekkadan Nagai has anything positive to say about. He still murdered him though so I don't even know what to make of this guy other than him being a bit messed up in the head. He wrote a story about child soldiers and completely failed to take into account their mental conditions and background while evaluating them ethically.

I want to watch more gundam because I love the tropes and Zeon boys, but this is just convincing me that it's bad for my blood pressure.

Not like he cares. Ogawa and the higher ups agreed with him. It was Okada saving scraps only because of her Matsukaze and Gaelio boner. The Tekkadan seiyuu and Sakurai were told that their roles and the ending would have been different than what we got.

Nagai just wanted to kill all the Tekkadan. He thought they deserved divine punishment for their mistakes and we're like evil on Earth. Personally, I was never a fan of Tekkadan and I knew Rustal would win this but the atrocious writing and pacing, along with a non existent character and relationship development really made me angry with how the creators don't care about their MCs.
