There are 2 types of Titans: Feral titans and titan shifter.s Feral titans are 99% of Titans and eat people for no reason and are dumb pieces of shit. Titan shifters can turn into a human again and have intelligence.

There are only at most 9 Titan shifters at any time, the only way known to become a titan shifter is for a feral titan to eat a titan shifter. Historically, new titan shifters are created by injecting the spinal fluid into the chosen in front of his predecessor. He immediately turns into a feral titan then consumes his predecessor, regaining his intelligence

The "time lapse" is that for 100 years the society inside the walls erased all trace of the outside and deliberately kept their own technology from advancing. Inside the walls technology is comparable to early 1800s (minus some stuff like 3DMG). Outside the walls they're in WW1-era tech.

It's the same amount of time passing for both just different levels of technology.

I don't like the implication that the past can be tampered with. What makes MORE sense, is that the intangible "paths" that converge at the coordinate, is tied in with the titan bloodline. The paths don't just connect all those in the lineage, they stretch forwards and backwards through the generation.
