Well I don't know about everyone else, but it reminds me of that early-00's tone when hip-hop was still kind of cool and not something the money grubbers had normalized and mass-produced for the mainstream. It wasn't nearly as popular or good selling to warrant its continued publication and that's when the Shinigami came in and everything changed. The first arc wasn't well received at all by the audience that matters.

He gave not a single question as to why Rukia was to be executed nor why it had to be so soon despite everyone else making a comment on how odd that was.

I know how Kubo ended up explaining it. It didn't make it less retarded during that time.

I think Gotei 13 wanted her gone asap because she had the hogyoku inside her...but that's a later development so the writing is really off

Both Renji and Rukia were surprised when Byakuya told them Rukia was going to be executed. And then EVERYONE was surprised when the execution was moved up. Ukitake and Shunsui rebelled because something was very obviously wrong and came prepared to fight to the death over it. All the other captains just followed orders, except Kenpachi, just followed orders. Then of course there's Byakuya who's going to kill Rukia himself because the execution failed.

No one besides Aizen and Urahara knew about the Hogyouku.
