The only thing I disliked is how casual everyone is around people who eat their kind for fun. Including their fucking father.

I guess it's like they accept the circle of life and how things should be etc, but they are shown to use human logic and behavior in pretty much every other aspect of life so it's weird.

Animals that are living with and have assimilated a culture similar to humans over the past several centuries, mind you.
That amount of time would have been more than enough for both Tengu and Tanuki to develop a bigger interest in not being turned into stew.

But nope, they treat the yearly ceremony of the Friday Fellows as a necessary evil.
The tanuki might as well stay as inferior as animals if they keep on treating themselves as a culture that exists to be stewed on a yearly basis.

I didn't really buy the "tanuki roam the earth" part because of Soun making deals with Hotei, and the Ebisugawa business of manufacturing beverages and Souichiro being the community figure for the tanuki in Kyoto.

Good luck about that. Most about Benten is still shrouded in mystery and we're still one book short of a trilogy.

I may be overanalysing it, but it seems to be that their attempt at being more human is intrinsically wrong even from their own perspective - they are fakes par excellence

That's one of the most unique and memorable things about it though, in terms of world building it feels like a long established fantasy setting that runs on distinctly different social dynamics than real life. It also helps keep the balance between lighthearted fun and serious emotional moments, it'd be too dramatic of a series if they were fighting the injustice of being low on the food chain the whole time.

That said, it could be a cautionary message for the audience not to just accept their place like that.

In yasaburo's case he was incapable of acting rationally on his fear of the FFellows becuase of his facination with humans and his love of Benten.

He even remarks on how exciting being hunted can be sometimes while he was on the run after the bon festival.

Plus also lol he's an idiot.

It was passable.
Some of the plot was really stupid,but overall it was a decent show.
Frog bro carried it.

The ending of S1 was too straight forward imo. The show had this really nice mystical/poetic feeling and then loses it before the end.
