Too many cold hard truths

The same reason no one talks about it anymore. It wasn't interesting or memorable. A very vocal minority circlejerking and lying to you about how amazing it is, doesn't change that this is simply yet another seasonal anime that everyone already forgot about.

Japan doesn't like bitchy FeMC, see Sabagebu and Binbougami ga.

It was shit. Wasn't even good at being snarky which was like half its appeal when it first aired, it just picked at the lowest hanging fruit with shallow fucking remarks everybody already knew.

The rest of it is a mediocre work drama that's so generic you could literally put it in any other media-based setting and it would still work. Sore ga Seiyuu was infinitely superior.

The girls weren't all in high school.

It went full QUALITY around episode 7 which is particulary annoying since the show looked really good at the beginning.

I like Shirobako as much as anyone else but the second half with the Mr. Funny Story stuff was anything but subtle.
Also, Shirabako and GN target different aspects of the industry and complement each other pretty well.

Girlish Number certainly wasn't subtle, but Shirobako wasn't much better in that regard. What Shirobako depicted was an average studio making a slightly above average anime with passion and dedication. Girlish Number depicted a cash-grab project put in the hands of incompetent people with no interest in making something good. If 3rd Aerial Girls Squad was Stratos 4, then Kuusure was Taboo tattoo.
I like both Shirobako and Girlish Number, and while the former was better overall and resonated with my passion for animation, the latter was a better comedy and had more interesting, if less likeable characters.

Also, there is no harem otaku insert. Do you honestly think Oregairu would be popular if there wasn't a male MC surrounded by a bunch of cute girls? If Girlish Number had the manager as MC with all the girls crushing on him then this would have sold a lot more due to wish fulfillment.

Except most of the time, oregairu presents its protagonist as unlikable scum whose untenable worldview is constantly challenged and undermined by reality. Anybody seriously self-inserting as the MC of that is either a masochist or seriously delusional.

GN is just oregairu with a stereotypical princess protagonist instead of a stereotypical angst-ridden teen. Both are just genderswaps of the same narcissism.
